Initially, I bought the HP Wireless Printer Upgrade kit connection from HP. I manually configured the wireless connection to my router and did not use the utility. My wireless Photosmart 3310 was in a closet in order to free up desk space and I wanted the Laserjet to reside there as well. Our home network had a desktop computer hardwired and a PS3 and several laptops wirelessly hooked up to a US Robotics router. Best of all, this little gem has not dropped the signal in over a week of use. I purchased an MSI Wireless-G USB2.0 Adapter which configured in a flash on my desktop after loading the drivers off the disc.
There is probably a good reason HP no longer sells this product on their site.I moved my router and modem to the closet with both printers and connected the Laserjet direct to the router's USB printer port.
Even when first installed, it was constantly dropping off line.
Oddly, although initially concerned about my performance, it does appear that the wireless connection is faster than the old wired Ethernet connection from my desktop.
Several months ago, I added a Laserjet 2100M printer to our home.
It came on immediately, providing me with a strong signal.
I finally got so upset with its unreliability, I pulled the Laserjet out of the closet.
With the unit right next to my desktop computer, the HP wireless signal would drop every couple of minutes and you could see the strength varying from good, fair and poor repeatedly.
I don't have actual performance data but it appears at least to be a significant perceptual improvement.
My desk area is also a little neater without the router and modem unsightliness.
I just order my second HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit. 500 pages per week).I really like the product, but don't intend to purchase a third device next year. If you don't following the procedure exactly, it won't work.I found it as easy to use as selecting a printer from the print menu.
This, I think, is its worst drawback. For those that reported trouble, it may be directly related to either the computer, operating system (Vista has some serious problems) or the printer. As others have noted, it lasts about a year before it dies.

It will be necessary to reinstall the printer for each machine that is going to attach to the printer that is attached to the now wireless printer on the home network and the software that is provided with the unit has to be loaded on each machine. After receiving the HP Wireless Upgrade Printing kit, I have to say that I really like this product. The product arrives in a bubble package that requires the use of a scissors or other sharp instrument to unwrap the device. If the upgrade kit is to included in a home wireless network then also check the knowledge base on HP's site to get the best instructions on how to use the unit for this additional installation. Just remember that if you are using a lot of the security features such as NIC filtering, etc. The installation instructions are very clear but here in lay the problem with the device.
The device works as described and performs quickly and efficiently. It was fairly easy to setup with one notable but minor problem. Here again if Vista is being used then the software will have to be downloaded to each machine running Vista in order to gain access to the device. If the user is using Vista the software provided with the unit will not work, it is for Windows XP only, so access to the internet is required in order to go to the HP website and download the software for Vista. The wireless dongle provided with the upgrade kit only needs to be used to setup and connect the first time if the computer is already on a wireless network. I would recommend this device to anyone wanting to have a wireless printer in their home wireless network.

Set this up in 15 minutes and I now have a wireless printer available to all computers on my home network. My network is "open" and as at least one other reviewer mentioned, that may be necessary to make a printer available on the network until HP figures out a WEP-enabled network option. Happy with this purchase as it was easy to get going and does what it advertises.
